Laptop Hours

Materia Cafè has been a long-time favourite for remote workers, or “smart working” as it’s called in Italy. They are open early enough, and permit laptops before and after lunch hours.

Coffee Standard

Materia serves coffee from the Picapau Coffee Roastery (the last time we checked), but often not enough care is taken in preparation so that the result is closer to that of a coffee bar than that of a specialty coffee shop.

Working Conditions

Working at Materia Cafè can be tricky at times. They still allow you to work with a laptop before and after lunch hours, but things get busy, which means space can be limited (especially when outside seating isn’t feasible) and the noise levels are too loud to take calls. While prices have increased recently, it’s understandable and still very reasonable. During our last inspection, there were some construction works in progress outside which means a lot less natural light makes its way into the cafe – one the previous strongpoints for working at Materia.
